La Taqueria

Earlier in the year when it was still sunny and warm a group of my friends went to La Taqueria for lunch. Its a small shop located across from the Broadway-City Hall Canada Line station thats always bustling. Its an order first sit later restaurant and it can be kind of tight during busy hours but we were lucky to get seats, for 6 of us no less! All of their tacos are served on 2 corn tortillas which are nice and resistant to any soggy toppings. Meat tacos are $2.50 each or 4 for $9.50, while veggie tacos are $2.00 each or 4 for $7.00

What we ate

Rajas Con Crema – roasted poblano peppers with creamed corn, sour cream & mexican cheese

Al Pastor - pork marinated in achiote chilli and pineapple

De Chachete – braised beef cheek

De Lengua – braised beef tounge

Carnitas - pork confit with pickled red onions

Tinga De Pollo - chicken with chorizo in a chipotle tomato sauce, topped with mexican cheese + sour cream

Of the tacos I did try (since these pics were from all my friends) my favourites were the beef tongue and the Al Pastor! The tongue was amazingly tender and flavourful, and its kind of fun to be eating a cut of meat that I wouldn’t be trying otherwise. The Al Pastor was very well balanced with some smokiness from the chilli and sweetness from the pineapple.

Horchata

A creamy drink made of rice and cinnamon. This was my second time having horchata and it was fantastic! Definitely a must try if you’re at this restaurant, or at any Mexican restaurants.

Final Thoughts

La Taqueria is a very conveniently located, very popular lunch spot serving authentic Mexican food  at good prices. Given that there aren’t many authentic Mexican places in town this is a must try! Try and come in smaller groups because the seating is limited – take out is also a popular option!
